Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Reaction Speed Test?

The Reaction Speed Test is a web-based game designed to measure and improve your reflexes. You enter a nickname, choose a difficulty mode (Standard or Hard), and proceed through ten randomized rounds. Each round presents a highlighted cell in a grid. In Standard mode, simply click the cell as quickly as it appears. In Hard mode, an additional key press (Q, W, E, or R) is required before clicking, increasing the mental challenge. Your reaction latency is recorded in milliseconds, and your average score is calculated at the end.

How do I start playing?

To begin, enter your desired nickname (2–20 characters) in the input field on the homepage. Once registered, select either Standard or Hard mode and click the Start button. The game will automatically generate a new session on the server. Follow the on-screen prompts: press the indicated key when in Hard mode, then click the active cell. Complete all ten rounds to submit your final score and see your position on the global leaderboard.

How are scores calculated?

Your score is based on the average reaction time across ten rounds. Each round measures the time between the cell appearing and your valid click (or key press plus click in Hard mode), recorded in milliseconds. For the time-limited variant, click count within a fixed window is also logged. The leaderboard ranks players by lowest average time first; in time-limited sessions, highest click count takes precedence before average time.

Can I track my progress over time?

Yes, your scores are saved on our server under your chosen nickname. While there is no persistent user account, you can view monthly aggregated leaderboards to see if your name appears among the top performers. For personal logs, consider keeping a manual record of your average times and click counts after each session to monitor improvement.

Are there any tips to improve my reaction time?

Improving reaction speed involves regular practice, proper ergonomics, and mental preparation. Sit comfortably, maintain focus on the screen center, warm up your fingers, and alternate between Standard and Hard modes. Short, consistent training sessions with breaks prevent fatigue and help build muscle memory. Check out our Tips page for a comprehensive training guide.
